Summer Immersion in the Liberal Arts Program

Summer Immersion in the Liberal Arts is a four-week program that offers a small cohort of incoming first-year students an opportunity to begin exploring Vassar’s global liberal arts and earn credit toward the Vassar degree. The program is designed for high-achieving students with a demonstrated commitment to their communities. It offers two half-unit courses, creative engagement workshops, peer and faculty mentors, and an introduction to the communities of Vassar and Poughkeepsie. Summer Immersion prepares students to enter, navigate, and influence the educational experience at Vassar.

The Summer Immersion program can accommodate only a small cohort of students, and is therefore, highly selective. First generation college students and/or students from lower socio-economic backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.

Applications for Summer 2020 coming soon. Email epi@vassar.edu for more information.

Additional Summer Opportunities for Incoming First-year Students

Foundations Week

Foundations Week is a component of the Transitions Program, which is Vassar’s program for first generation, low income and/or undocumented students. Participants in Foundations Week begin to cultivate relationships with faculty and administrators, bond through peer mentorship and in a first-year cohort, explore the Hudson Valley, sample courses, and enhance their capacity to navigate higher education as a first generation, low income and/or undocumented student.

International Student Orientation

This unique orientation welcomes incoming international students, exchange students, and language fellows and offers them a guided introduction to Vassar College. International Student Orientation (ISO for short) provides a series of activities geared to increase cultural awareness and to help new international students with their transition to Vassar. The events range from personal pick-ups at the airport to information sessions about crucial on-campus resources to a barbecue by Sunset Lake. The purpose of ISO is to ensure that our international first-year students begin their journey at Vassar in the best possible way.
